Spain has some incredible golf courses all within a couple of hours of each other. Make a day of it or even better, book into the onsite hotels and make a week it.
Some of the golf courses around Alicante
On the shores of the Mediterranean is Alicante Golf, located on the spectacular San Juan beach just 5 minutes from the centre of Alicante. Set out in a large residential area, the course has wide holes planted with thousands of trees and where care for the environment and savings in water consumption are priority aspects, which has won it the honour of being the first course in Europe to jointly obtain the two most prestigious environmental quality certificates: ISO-14.001 and Q-Plus. The course was designed by Spanish golfing legend Seve Ballesteros which incorporates 5 lakes, decent length fairways and wide greens allowing for some long drives. The practice area includes a driving range of natural grass and a complete short play area.
The club sports a decent hotel meaning that if you fancy trying again tomorrow you can book a room ready for the next day.
Club De Golf El Plantío
After the repopulation of many exotic plant species, El Plantio Golf sports a very exotic feel and a challenging 18-hole 72 Par championship course. Lakes make the course challenging (especially on holes 10 and 17) and tall palm trees add a decent amount of rough to keep your drives on the straights.
The resort has many facilities including lessons, wide driving range, clubhouse with a fine selection of food and drinks and apartments for holiday rent for those who think 1 day isn't enough.
Club De Golf Bonalba
The Design of Bonalba Golf Resort is very balanced, with 5 large lakes, which affect 7 holes, and with many perfectly placed bunkers means you always need to bring your 'A' game.
The first round, hole 1 to 9 can be considered more technical bringing in your short game skills. In the second round, more specifically from hole 12 to 18, the driver will be decisive when it comes to placing the ball on the fairway.
Club de Golf Alenda Golf course
The Alenda Golf course was designed and built by Roland Favrat with the maximum respect for the original lay of the land and the estate’s natural vegetation, avoiding any aggressive movements of the earth during the construction process.
The golf course was completed in October 1999. It covers 49 hectares of land, 18 holes, par 72 and 6,257 metres in length, as well as an excellent practice area. They have a full driving range with 25 mats, bunker, 2 greens and pitch&putt named hole 19. Area is illuminated and allows practice until 22:00 h.
The hole 19 is an excellent practice area consisting of 6 tees converging on the same green with 3 holes. It is ideal for beginners and experts who want to practise the short game. You can rent the course allowing you some private time to hone in your short game.
The course offers the player a playing area of international size that has five exit tees for each hole – with each green having its own personality. The hills integrated into the valley, the natural watercourses and a small river that inter-connects five ponds, make these 18 holes a marvellous excuse to enjoy the open air and have.
The Golf Course has a unique nature area of 34 hectares, ideal for practising and playing golf, the course is designed so that the expert or amateur player can enjoy it, adapting the different holes for different levels of player.
